Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley led dozens of activists in a protest action at the west steps of the Pasadena City Hall on Tuesday, May 21, as part of a nationwide day of action against what the group said is a “rash of extreme abortion bans sweeping the country.”

The local Planned Parenthood joined major progressive organizations like All* Above All Action Fund, the ACLU, EMILY’s List, Indivisible, MoveOn, NARAL Pro-Choice America, UltraViolet and Women’s March in organizing their members on a day that saw activists in all 50 states host and attend actions outside of state capitols and courthouses and in town squares.

The groups said the protest action was in direct response to 15 abortion bans passed in states across the country.

Planned Parenthood had announced it would activate about 13 million supporters throughout the country during the Stop the Bans protest day.

“Support for abortion access is at a record high – more than seven in 10 Americans do not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned,” a Planned Parenthood statement said. “This day of action will send a loud and clear message to politicians: banning abortion is dangerous, deeply unpopular, and people will not stand for it.”
