Summer News from the Sierra Madre Public Library

Join your friends and neighbors for free family fun in the air-conditioned Sierra Madre Public Library. “Read to the Rhythm” is the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program.

Summer Reading Program Events

Saturday, August 1, 4:00 pm – Joseph Spolestra, classical guitar. Adults are invited to enjoy an hour of relaxing music.
Tuesday, August 4, 3:00 pm – Teen History Docent Tour “Our Museums” at the Richardson House Museum.
Saturday, August 8 10:00 am – Tiny Tea Party. Children, dress up and bring your favorite doll to the Tiny Tea Party. Enjoy doll-sized games and treats.
Saturday, August 8, 11:00 am – Teen History Docent Tour “Surprise Me” at the Library.
Sunday, August 9, 6:00 pm – Gem City Jazz Cats Big Band Concert in the Park sponsored by the Friends and Kiwanis.
Monday, August 10, 10:00 am – Enjoy a Back-to-School Storytime Bonanza, as the entire library is filled with activities to help students get a great start on the school year.
Thursday, August 20, 11:00 am – Third Thursday Book Club. Bring and discuss your favorite book with a musical theme.

Join the Summer Reading Program
There’s still time to join the 686 other adult, teen and children members of the Summer Reading Program and win prizes. Signups are open until the last day of Summer Reading on Monday, August 10. Thanks to our sponsors – Friends of the Library, Sierra Madre Volunteer Firefighters, Kiwanis Club, and the Woman’s Club.

Friends of the Library Best Used Book Sale
Find bargains on great books at the Friends Book Sale on Friday, August 7 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and Saturday, August 8 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Library Board of Trustees
The meeting of the Trustees normally scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 has been cancelled. The next Trustee meeting will be on Wednesday, September 23 at 7 pm in the City Council chambers. Applications are being accepted to fill a vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees and are available on the website here: http://cityofsierramadre.com/city-officals/commissions-board-committees

New Library Catalog
The Library will launch a new and improved catalog in late August. Among new features are easier searching and access to e-books, ability to renew DVDs, notices by text or email, and soon to come, payment by credit card!
