Support Water Conservation, Remind Others with City-Supplied Signs

The recent rainfall – while welcomed – has barely made a dent in the state’s long-standing drought, officials say, pointing to JPL’s analysis that California still needs 11 trillion gallons of rainfall to recover from the parcher.

With this in mind, Pasadenans’ support for water conservation measures imposed by the City Council last July shouldn’t waver. Instead, Phyllis Currie, General Manager of Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) asks citizens to show their support for water conservation by posting free lawn signs reminding everyone of the city’s winter watering schedule.

Currie said the free signs are available while supplies last at Villa-Parke Community Center (363 E. Villa St), Jackie Robinson Community Center (1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave.), Victory Park Community Center (2575 Paloma St) and the Senior Center (85 E. Holly St.).

PWP can offer only one sign per household due to the limited number of available signs.

Measuring 2 feet by 1.5 feet, the blue and gold signs remind us Pasadena’s winter watering schedule is in effect Nov. 1 through March 31, 2015. Residents can water their yards one day per week, on Tuesday,Thursday or Saturday.

The Pasadena City Council enacted the city’s Level 1 water shortage supply plan on July 28, 2014. The plan includes 13 permanent water waste prohibitions.

Under the Level 1 Plan, property owners must limit watering to once a week in fall and winter, water before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m.; shut off sprinklers during periods of rain and fix any water leaks within 72 hours, among other rules.
