Surveillance video has been released showing an armed robber pistol-whipping the attendant of a South Lake Avenue gas station about 11 p.m. Wednesday night before grabbing cash and fleeing by foot into the night.

“I asked him ‘how can I help you’ and he … pointed the gun,” the clerk told KTLA5 News.

The robber, who nears a resemblance to a suspect in a similar gas station robbery on Washington Boulevard a day earlier, entered the Mobil gas station in the 400 block of South Lake Avenuwe, pulled on a ski mask and pointed a black handgun at the clerk, authorities said.

Lt. John Mercado said the suspect struck the clerk, a 50-year-old Arcadia resident, with the butt of the handgun and forced him to the floor before rifling through the cash register and escaping.

The amount of the loss was undetermined as of this morning.

Paramedics responded to the scene. The assault victim received abrasions on his left check and complained of pain in his forearm but refused medical attention.

The suspect is described as a black man about 40 to 45 years of age about 6 feet tall and of heavy build, Mercado said.
