Following a 7-hour stand-off with Pasadena Police, a felony assault suspect was arrested after surrendering himself to SWAT Officers and members of the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). No one was injured and the firearm was recovered.

On January 26, 2015 shortly after 1:00 a.m., Pasadena Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call from a female yelling that she had been robbed at gunpoint and locked in a room. The caller stated she fled the location and was calling police from her vehicle. Police officers contacted the female victim and learned that the incident occurred inside an apartment at 70 Harkness Avenue.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., Pasadena Police Officers conducted an arrest attempt, wherein the suspect was seen carrying a firearm as he backed into his apartment. Officers contained the area and evacuated residents, including other occupants inside the suspect’s apartment. The suspect refused to exit the location. SWAT and CNT Officers responded to the scene and attempted for several hours to make contact with the suspect inside the apartment. Ultimately, through a coordinated effort with the suspect’s mother, telephonic contact was established. CNT personnel persuaded the suspect to surrender without incident at 11:40 a.m. Officers located a handgun inside the suspect’s apartment.

Police arrested Henry Sinclair Hsieh (Asian male, 20 years of age, Pasadena resident) for assault with a firearm). He remains in custody in the Pasadena Jail, bail is $50,000.

Suspect-Hsieh is currently on probation for a prior robbery arrest.

“These situations are very complex and dangerous for public safety and the community. Our Patrol, SWAT and CNT officers worked diligently and professionally bringing this potentially volatile circumstance to closure without further incident. We appreciate the residents’ support and cooperation during the elongated event,” stated Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez.
