The suspect in the shooting death of a former television associate producer in East Pasadena early Friday was found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday afternoon.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Detectives found the body of the suspect, 24-year-old Brandon Rafiepour of Los Angeles, inside his car in West Los Angeles about 4 p.m.
Rafiepour is thought to have shot and killed 24-year-old Joseph McMahon in the 3600 block of Yorkshire Drive in the unincorprated Chapman Woods area of East Pasadena Friday morning about 2:20 a.m.
Sheriff’s detectives have not explained the relationship, if any, between suspect and victim.
McMahon had worked as an associate producer on the Discover Channel’s TV series “Deadliest Catch” for nine episodes in 2013, according to his IMDb profile.
KCBS-TV said McMahon’s grandfather is former CBS News reporter Bob Flick.
“We are heartsick about this tragedy — our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him,” Laurie Goldberg of Discovery & Science Networks said in a statement.
Family members told KCBS that McMahon reportedly heard a noise outside and went to check it out when the shooting occurred.
“We do know that he did leave the house right before the shooting,” explained Lt. Holly Francisco. “People heard gunshots and found the victim.”
The investigation is still on-going and no further information is available at this time.
