Ten Local Liquor Stores Refuse to Sell Beer to Minor in Decoy Sting

All ten Pasadena liquor stores targeted in a sting operation refused to sell beer to the underage decoy and complied with the law, authorities say.

Day One and Pasadena Police officers conducted a series of compliance checks of local stores selling beer, wine and spirits in the City of Pasadena on March 21. Of the ten stores surveyed for compliance, none sold beer to the minor.

“We could not have asked for a better outcome and congratulate the Pasadena Police Department and all ten Pasadena establishments for their commitment to protecting the health and safety of Pasadena youth and families,” said Carolina Gazzolo Clark, Director for Prevention Programs at Day One. “Our hope is to have a zero sales rate every time we conduct the stings.”

The ongoing series of decoy stings in the city are meant to ensure that local stores are following underage drinking laws, and not selling to minors.

The stores that did not sell to the minor were:

· Pat’s Liquor Store, 1072 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Golden Liquor Mart, 2895 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Sunshine Liquor, 3360 E. Colorado Blvd.
· 7-11, 2717 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Liquor Mart, 2044 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Foothill Liquor, 2547 E. Foothill Blvd.
· Vons, 2355 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Target, 3121 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Smart & Final, 3299 E. Colorado Blvd.
· Bowl Market, 1848 E. Colorado Blvd.

To conduct the compliance checks, law enforcement officials supervise undercover youth who attempt to purchase alcohol, penalizing the establishment if the attempt is successful.
