“The 2019 Rose Queen is” are words seven members of the 2019 Royal Court are anxiously awaiting to hear at the Announcement and Coronation of the 101th Rose Queen Tuesday night.

The yearly event offers the opportunity for Pasadena to become better acquainted with the Royal Court before the famed Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, and of course, to find out who will be the Rose Queen.

The seven members of the 2019 Royal Court are (in alphabetical order): Lauren Michele Baydaline, Westridge School for Girls; Ashley Symone Hackett, John Muir High School; Rucha S. Kadam, La Canada High School; Sherry Xiaorui, San Marino High School; Micaela Sue McElrath, Westridge School for Girls; Helen Susan Rossi, Flintridge Preparatory School; Louise Deser Siskel, Sequoyah High School.

Tournament of Roses Queen & Court Committee Chair Craig Washington said in the last six weeks, the Queen and Court Committee has had the honor of selecting and getting to know the seven members of the Royal Court.

“Each one of them comes to the table with their own unique set of skills and strengths,” Washington said. “Tuesday night is just the beginning of many more opportunities for the Royal Court to serve as Ambassador’s for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.”

In the next couple of months, the seven young women will participate in an assortment of classes, including speech coaching, etiquette and media training. They will also make more than 100 public appearances that include civic engagement and volunteer work.

2019 Tournament of Roses President Gerald Freeny said he is thrilled and honored to announce and crown the 101st Rose Queen Tuesday night.

“The 2019 theme is ‘The Melody of Life,’ so you know the night will be filled with the magic of music,” Freeny said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the community come together to celebrate the 2019 Royal Court as they start their new journey as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses and the Pasadena Community.”

Last year’s chair Dave Link said the overwhelming connector and common denominator with the Royal Court that separates them from others are their commitment to community and making a difference.

This year’s chair agrees.

“We’re looking forward to the upcoming months as the Royal Court is presented with many opportunities to connect and give back to the community,” Washington said of the young women, whose full biographies are listed here.

The Announcement and Coronation of the 101th Rose Queen and Presentation of the 2019 Royal Court is Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and is presented by Citizens Business Bank.

The event will take place at the Pasadena Playhouse, located at 39 South El Molino Ave and advance tickets are available through Sharp Seating Company by clicking here.
