The Caltech Players Present "The Ash Girl" By Timberlake Wertenbaker

The Caltech Players are proud to present its annual summer play, The Ash Girl, by Timberlake Wertenbaker (Our Country’s Good, Three Birds Alighting on a Field, Jefferson’s Garden) directed by Miranda Stewart and starring Caltech undergraduates, alumni and staff, summer research interns, JPL personnel and other members of the Caltech community. This play is a modern feminist retelling of the Cinderella fable and explores relationships, social pressure, and the importance of finding self-confidence. With a re-imagined step-mother and step-sisters, a melancholy prince from a distant land, and animal avatars of the Seven Deadly Sins, Ash Girl is appropriate for all ages, and offers a unique take on an old classic. All performances are at 8:00 p.m. in the back yard of the Caltech Alumni House. Street parking is plentiful and free.

The Extracurricular Players at Caltech (EXPLiCIT) is a student-run community theater organization, dedicated to performing old favorites and exciting new works. Previous summer plays have included Major Barbara, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Much Ado about Nothing, The Tempest, and Metamorphoses. EXPLiCIT also assists in the annual production of Mach 33, the Festival of New Science-Based Plays at Caltech, which presents three original plays every April and May.

The Ash Girl by Timberlake Wertenbaker will be performed on Friday, August 11, Saturday, August 12, Sunday, August 13, Thursday, August 17th, Friday, August 18th, and Saturday, August 20th, 2017. All performances are at 8:00 p.m. at Caltech Alumni House, 345 S. Hill Ave., Pasadena.
