The Dodgers Stop the Mets, 6-2

Haren settles down, Gordon and Turner sparkle

Dodger pitcher Dan Haren found his groove. Just after giving up a home run to the first batter he faced. Curtis Granderson sent the third pitch he saw into the stands, as the 47,000+ LA fans fell silent.

The Doyers gave them much to cheer about as the game went on, however, beating the visiting New York Mets 6-2, behind the scrappy pitching of Haren, the bat of Dee Gordon, and the hustle of Justin Turner. The Dodgers improved to 3-1 againstt the Mets.

It’s Haren’s 11th win of the season, and probably his bravest yet.

Gordon went 3 for 5, with a run scored, a run batted in, along with his 11th triple of the season, a fireball hit deep to the corner in right.

Turner got on base three times, scored a run, walked and doubled, hitting safely for the sixth consecutive game, and earning praise from Dodger manager Don Mattingly, who said, “He’s been good, playing really good for us lately.”

The Mets scored a run late in the eighth and gave the Dodgers a scare in the top of the ninth, putting runners on the corners. Alas.

The Mets are here for the weekend, and then the Dodgers will head out to Arizona and San Diego.

Here’s how we blogged it:
The Dodgers begin a three-game home stand against the New York Mets with the redoubtable Dan Haren facing the Mets’ Jonathan Niese. The Dodgers have won 11 of their last 13 games against the Mets, but this is baseball.
