The historic Constance Hotel was sedate housing for senior citizens before it was completely made-over with a $60 million renovation. It has received an Historic Preservation Award from the City of Pasadena.
The La Casita del Arroyo Historic Rehabilitation Project earned a Historic Preservation award. The project revitalized a city-owned building designed in 1932 by noted architect Myron Hunt.

The City of Pasadena will present Historic Preservation Awards today to 10 property owners, designers/architects and contractors for their exceptional historic restoration or rehabilitation projects of local properties.

Designated by the Historic Preservation Commission, the awards recognize excellence in preservation projects which stand out in their neighborhoods and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving Pasadena’s shared architectural heritage.

The 14th annual awards ceremony today at 6 p.m. at the Pasadena Convention Center will fête the Lincoln Restaurant at 1992 Lincoln Ave. and its restorers (Michael Bollenbacher, Christine Moore, Pam Perkins and Robert Yamamoto) and the $60 million rejuvenation of the dusitD2 Constance Hotel on the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Mentor Avenue.

The Lincoln Restaurant earned its Historic Preservation Award not only for re-energizing a property but creating an uplifting effect in its local neighborhood.

Also earning an Award is the La Casita del Arroyo Historic Rehabilitation Project near the Arroyo Seco, which revitalized a city-owned building designed in 1932 by noted architect Myron Hunt. That project, submitted for consideration by Pasadena-based ONYX Architects Inc., was funded largely by community members. The La Casita Foundation donated $125,000 to the project, including a $10,000 donation by the West Pasadena Residents Association and a $25,000 donation from the Pasadena Community Foundation.

Rounding out the awardees are the Hermitage, the James Craig Adobe in District 4; the Robert Pitcairn Jr. House on the Westridge School for Girls campus in Council District 6; District 2 homes at 1158 North Mar Vista Avenue and at 1570 North Holliston Avenue; Case Study House 10 in District 6; the Exhibition Hall at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, both in District 6; and the Millard Sheets “Tournament of Roses” mural at Pasadena City College in District 7.

The event tonight is open to the public. For more information, call (626) 795-9311.
