In an effort to support the continuous advancement of science and technology in Pasadena, the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau teamed with Bill Nye and the Planetary Society to showcase Pasadena’s innovative spirit. The partnership comes at the conclusion of several multimillion-dollar hotel renovations, offering planners new hotel rooms, meeting spaces and amenities to host their events and meetings.

As a popular destination located 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena is not only a historical city known for its landmarks, museums, entertainment and botanical gardens, but as a pioneer in science and space exploration. Over the past year, the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered with Caltech, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the city of Pasadena to showcase Pasadena as a destination for science and technology meetings. The Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau recently worked closely with the Planetary Society and Bill Nye on a citywide video focusing on Pasadena’s innovative spirit at institutions such as Caltech, JPL, the ArtCenter College of Design, Mount Wilson Observatory and Kidspace Children’s Museum.

“For decades, Pasadena has been the birthplace of space exploration and award-winning engineers and scientists who continue to uncover new details about our solar system,” said Jeanne O’Grady Goldschmidt, Executive Director of the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau. “It’s important to showcase the city’s contribution as a leader in innovation because it aids in tourism and is one of the many reasons why we continue to attract several events and meetings within those fields.”

In July, the CVB will welcome two scientific meetings, the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE) and COSPAR, the world’s largest international gathering of scientists to promote scientific research in space. Pasadena is a premier destination for science and technology meetings with key institutions such as Caltech, NASA/JPL, ArtCenter College of Design, Carnegie Observatories, The Planetary Society and Innovate Pasadena.

The cities growing hotel landscape has played a vital role in accommodating locals, tourists and events. In 2017, several of the city’s hotels underwent multimillion-dollar renovations. Among the changes that took place: the Sheraton Pasadena completed a $20 million renovation of guest rooms, lobby and meeting spaces; a $25 million renovation of guest rooms, lobby, bar and meeting spaces at Hilton Pasadena; $11 million guest room beautification at Westin Pasadena; and construction of a rooftop pool, meeting space, fitness center and 30 new rooms at dusitD2 Hotel Constance Pasadena that is scheduled for completion summer 2018. In addition, a new 186-room upscale Hyatt Place hotel in Pasadena’s most popular retail and entertainment center, The Paseo, the downtown six-story hotel, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018.
