The Weekend – and Perhaps Much of January – Will See Rain

Pasadena residents should expect rainy weather this weekend as a moderate storm system moves through Southern California, bringing rain and mountain snow to most locations. After a break on Monday and early Tuesday, another storm is likely Tuesday evening through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Julie Malingowski, an NWS meteorologist, said the weather outlook for the next couple of weeks indicates above-normal precipitation. Looking toward the next couple of months, the odds are also in favor of above-average precipitation, Malingowski told the Los Angeles Times.
A NWS forecast discussion early Friday said rain totals are expected to be between a half to an inch in the valleys, and a half to 1.5 inches in the foothills and mountains, with possibly localized higher amounts of rain when thunderstorms occur.
The NWS warned that rain falling on roadways can mix with oil buildup and create extra slippery conditions for motorists, especially at the onset of rain. Water could also pond on the roadways and create a heightened risk of vehicles hydroplaning while traveling at highway speeds.
Saturday should be rainy, with an 80 percent chance as NWS predicts. Rain would be mainly after 5 p.m. Highs will be near 60, with a southeast wind at around five miles per hour.
Saturday night should see rain before 11 p.m., followed by showers and possibly a thunderstorm. An east southeast wind prevails at around five mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Sunday should have a 50 percent chance of showers, and should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 60, and a calm wind at five mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Sunday night should be partly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Monday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Monday night should be partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 67. A slight chance of rain is possible Tuesday night, but it should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.
Wednesday should see a chance of rain and should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. Wednesday night should also see a chance of rain, and should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 45.
A slight chance of showers is expected Thursday, which should be partly sunny, with a high near 63.
