The Women’s Civic League (WCL) of Pasadena held its annual Holiday Boutique and Luncheon on December 4, Monday, at the Women’s City Club, as part of fundraising efforts to help the organization provide grants to nonprofit organizations serving women and children in the Pasadena.

WCL members made many of the items for sale at the boutique, outside vendors supplied the others, and shoppers added some great gifts to their lists for the holidays.

The event also included an opportunity drawing and silent auction, while beautiful decorations gave just the right atmosphere for the delicious three-course luncheon created by the Women’s City Club chef.

Margaret Hunter, WCL First Vice President, played holiday favorites on the piano, to entertain members and guests before the luncheon. After lunch, the Blair High School Choral Group, under the direction of Amanda Engstrom, sang songs celebrating the Christmas and Hanukkah season.

WCL was founded in 1911 by Clara Burdette, who invited 50 women to join her in creating a higher sense of civic responsibility through membership in the non-partisan organization. Today, members span a broad range of life, career and volunteer work in education, social work, government service, the arts and other activities benefiting their community. With funds raised through the annual holiday boutique and auction, the group can distribute grants to member-selected non-profit organizations serving women, children, and youth.
