Tomorrow Will See Annual Tradition, Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast

Friends in Deed, an interfaith collaborative dedicated to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable residents of greater Pasadena, will host the 44th Annual Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 4, at the Pasadena Convention Center.

John Kobara, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the California Community Foundation, will be keynoting the event with his talk entitled “Comforting the Afflicted and Afflicting the Comfortable.”

The program will also feature Elliot Middle School’s Jazz Band, several local clergy, and will offer an opportunity to connect with your Pasadena community for a morning of unity, prayer and positive energy.

Individual tickets are $35, and a “Friends Table” of 10 is $400. Event sponsorships range from $500 to $1,500. Proceeds will go to projects of Friends in Deed, which helps serve the homeless and at-risk population in greater Pasadena.

Friends in Deed, now celebrating more than 120 years of service, started in 1894 as a collaboration of different congregations in Pasadena coming together to build bridges over common issues and community concerns. The group became a council of local churches during the war years and received nonprofit status in 1946 as a 501(c)(3) organization.

For the prayer breakfast, doors open just before 7 a.m., and the program begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. The Pasadena Convention Center is at 300 E. Green Street in Pasadena.
