For the next selection in its Off The Page series of free monthly staged readings, Sierra Madre Playhouse will present Tuesdays With Morrie on June 25, 7:00 p.m.,  based on the best-selling book by Mitch Albom.

Tuesdays With Morrie is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.

The stage adaptation was first performed in 2001. It is written by Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher. Hatcher is the writer of dozens of plays, known both for his work on Broadway (Never Gonna Dance) and in Hollywood (Secretary, Boys Don’t Cry).

L. Flint Esquerra directs. He is the longtime Artistic Director of the MET Theatre in Hollywood.
