Turkey Tussle and Pumpkin Festival to Draw Huge Crowds to Arroyo Seco on Saturday

This particular Saturday in October is likely to see as much zigging and zagging on Rose Bowl adjacent streets and parking lots as spectators will see on the stadium’s field when thousands converge in the Arroyo for the cross-town rivalry of the Turkey Tussle and families head for nearby Pumpkin Festival at Kidspace.

The annual Turkey Tussle and the 24th Annual Pumpkin Festival at Kidspace Children’s Museum each is expected to draw thousands at roughly the same time this morning.

So, say officials, if you are going to brave the masses leave early and be patient.

At Kidspace, families can take part in carnival games, bounce houses, fall crafts, petting zoo, photo opportunities and visit the pumpkin patch while enjoying live performances from local dance and musical groups.

The event is Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Just down the street, throngs of fans will take their seats in the Rose Bowl stadium for the annual Turkey Tussle showdown between rivals Pasadena High School and John Muir High School.

It will be the first time that both programs enter the game with a better than .500 record since the 2007 season.

The winner of the game will not only have boasting rights for the next year day they will finish one-game ahead of their rival in fourth place in the Pacific League.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

There will not be any street closures, but the east and west extension will be closed to parking from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Recreational and Equestrian Loops will remain open at all times, city officials said.

There is a fee to park for the football game, however Lot K will remain open to the public throughout the event. Rose Bowl parking lots open at 8:30 a.m. with the stadium opening at 9:45 a.m.
