Two Pasadena Freeway Tunnels Will be Closed Every Night This Week

Two major freeway tunnels in Pasadena will be closed by Caltrans intermittently for repaving starting this week.

The tunnel connector that directs the eastbound I-210 Foothill Freeway under the interchange of the 210 and the SR-134 Ventura Freeway and onto the eastbound I-210 will be closed to all traffic at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and will close on Fridays at 11 p.m., for up to the next four months.

Westbound motorists will see lane reductions but not complete closures during the same timeframe.

Additionally, the westbound I-210 Foothill Freeway connector to California/Del Mar/State Route 110 exit will be closed nightly during the week (11 a.m. to 6 a.m., Monday-Friday) through at least Feb. 16.

The eastbound I-210 Foothill Freeway will see major traffic restrictions and closures from Lowell Avenue in La Crescenta, down past West Altadena and through the connector tunnel up to the 134 merge, ending at Lake Avenue.

Here are other shorter-term closures on the I-210 in connection with the pavement rehabilitation work:

Eastbound I-210 (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.):

  • Lowell Avenue, La Crescenta Avenue, Foothill Blvd. (long-term closure since February 6), Marengo Avenue (no Monday night closures) on-ramps

  • Gould Avenue and Colorado Blvd. off-ramps

  • Pennsylvania Avenue, Berkshire Place, Ocean View Blvd., Angeles Crest Highway, Arroyo Blvd/Windsor Avenue, Lincoln Avenue/Howard Street, Mountain Street and Fair Oaks Avenue on- and off-ramps.

  • Connectors: southbound State Route 2 (Glendale Freeway), southbound Interstate 710 (Long Beach Freeway), westbound State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway)

Westbound I-210 (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.):

  • Up to four lanes from Walnut Street to Lowell Ave, up to three lanes from I-210/SR-134/I-710

  • connectors to Lake Avenue

  • Gould Ave. and Walnut St. on-ramps

  • Lowell Ave., La Crescenta Ave., Foothill Blvd., Colorado Blvd., Marengo Ave. off-ramps

  • Mountain St., Lincoln Ave./Howard St., Arroyo Blvd./Windsor Ave., Berkshire Pl.,

  • Angeles Crest Highway, Ocean View Blvd., and Pennsylvania Ave. on and off-ramps

  • Connectors: southbound SR-2, southbound I-710

In a statement, Caltrans advised residents and local businesses located near the freeway that they may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with the construction activities.

Water trucks will also be used to minimize dust during working hours, and equipment movement will be limited to reduce noise from back-up alarms, Caltrans said. Some closures may start and end later. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.
