Pasadena police officers arrested a Pasadena man after he reportedly broke into a home in the 1900 block of N. Raymond Avenue Saturday afternoon and then fled when adult members of the household came home and chased him.

Two children were in the house when burglar broke in – a brother and sister, 13 and 17 years old, respectively – at about 3:59 p.m. Their parents were away, Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said.

“The suspect forced his way into the residence by breaking out a window; he crawled inside,” Goodman said. “He was in the process of ransacking a closet in one of the bedrooms when he was interrupted by the victims. The victims called for assistance, and while they were doing so, their father and adult brother came home and chased the suspect from the location.”

Goodman said officers responded and located the suspect about three houses north of the original location.

The suspect, who was identified as Carlos Casares, 36, of Pasadena, was arrested without incident and booked at the Pasadena City Jail. He was later transferred to the Los Angeles County Jail, Goodman said.

The minor occupants of the residence were not injured during the burglary.
