District 1 Councilmember-elect Tyron Hampton (left) is congratulated by opponent Calvin Wells at City Hall after Hampton was announced the winner in the District 1 election race on April 29, 2015.

A final vote count of the last remaining provisional ballots in Pasadena’s municipal election Wednesday saw School Board member Tyron Hampton officially named the new District 1 Councilman, as Hampton’s 1,238 votes (51%)  surpassed former Pasadena Fire Chief Calvin Wells’s 1,185 (48.9%).

About 400 provisional city-wide ballots and a small number of vote-by-mail ballots were tallied in a City Hall count under the direction of City Clerk Mark Jomsky.

Both Hampton and Wells attended the final votes counting and heard Jomsky announce the results. Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson, who vacated the seat in her failed bid to become Mayor, was in the chamber to hear her successor named.

Hampton grew up locally, is a product of local public schools, and joined and works at his family’s business, Pasadena Construction. Hampton’s supporters, according to campaign documents, include Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich and William Chu, CFO of Singpoli, a Pasadena real estate investment and construction firm which owns the dusitD2 Constance Pasadena.
