Congressman Elijah Eugene Cummings (D-MD), who in February chaired the Congressional committee that heard testimony from President Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen, was in Pasadena on Sunday and spoke from the same pulpit where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached in 1960.

Cummings addressed the community at the historic Friendship Pasadena Church (formerly known as Friendship Baptist) in Old Pasadena.

Next he visited with local leaders at the home of Pasadena Vice Mayor John Kennedy and wrapped up the day with a town hall meeting at KPPC’s Crawford Family Forum moderated by local attorney Janet Braun, according to Kennedy.

“Congressman Elijah Cummings is entrusted with the preservation and advancement of our democracy. He has an awesome responsibility and burden,” Kennedy said Sunday evening. “He always calls upon his tight, taught, and logical mind to speak a language that is clear and heart-centered for the American People.”

Kennedy chaired the private committee which organized the Cummings visit.

“It continues to be the passion of my sister Lena Kennedy and I to ensure that our national leaders come to Pasadena and share their vision for America and to obtain local views of as many Pasadena residents as possible to add to the national discourse,” Kennedy said.

Both Kennedys are involved in a group called Women In Leadership Vital Voices, which last month hosted a visit by chief executive officer of the Democratic National Committee, Seema Nanda.

“What we do is bring people of influence that are impacting our country and create opportunities for the larger community to participate and be engaged with them,” Lena Kennedy explained.

She has been instrumental in past visits to Pasadena by Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vt.), former Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and former DNC chair and Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and other Democratic political leaders.
