Union Bank and The American Heart Association Find a New Adventure with the 127th Pasadena Tournament of Roses

Union Bank and the American Heart Association (AHA) Western States Affiliate will partner on a float in the 127th Rose Parade® on January 1, 2016. The float will be a celebration of 30 years of collaboration between Union Bank and the AHA, working together in the fight against heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers, respectively. This marks the first time either Union Bank or the AHA has participated in the Rose Parade.

Fittingly, this year’s theme for the parade, “Find Your Adventure,” is aligned with the AHA and Union Bank’s mission of building healthier lives through physical activity and healthy eating so people can enjoy more of life’s precious moments and adventures. The bank supports the AHA’s Life’s Simple 7® as a good guide to follow: 1) don’t smoke; 2) get active; 3) eat better; 4) maintain a healthy weight; 5) manage blood pressure; 6) control cholesterol; and 7) reduce blood sugar. A multitude of adventures await, for those who choose to live a healthy and fit lifestyle.

“It has been our privilege to collaborate with the AHA to promote fiscal and physical health, and we are truly excited about this latest adventure,” said Pierre P. Habis, Union Bank Consumer and Business Bank group head. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off our 30th anniversary than by being part of the biggest New Year’s celebration in the country. We hope the message of living longer, healthier lives free of heart disease and stroke encourages everyone watching to seek their own healthy adventures.”

Union Bank has supported the AHA in multiple areas, including raising millions of dollars on behalf of the organization and its mission. Over the last eight years alone, Union Bank and its employees, their families and friends, and customers have donated nearly $7 million in support of the AHA’s critical research, education, and prevention programs.

“Union Bank has a remarkable and far-reaching impact on our lifesaving work,” said American Heart Association Western States Affiliate Executive Vice President Kathy Rogers. “Our joint participation in the Rose Parade provides a unique opportunity to reach millions of people with heart- and brain- healthy messaging and is a natural progression of our longstanding partnership.”

The 127th annual Rose Parade will take place on New Year’s Day 2016 in Pasadena. Originally started on January 1, 1890, the event is produced by the non-profit Tournament of Roses Association. The Rose Parade is an integral part of America’s New Year Celebration and includes decorative floats, marching bands, and equestrian units. This year’s theme grew out of the unique partnership between the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the National Park Service.
