Brauer will remain at the helm of Union Station until December 28.

Kahn, the former CEO of L.A. Care, has been a long-time supporter of Union Station and is an active member of Union Station’s Program Committee.

“We are extremely fortunate to be able to tap Howard’s extensive management expertise and leadership ability, and his passion for helping the most vulnerable people in our society,” Union Station Board Chair Alan Maltun said. “Through his involvement with Union Station, Howard already is familiar with the core services that we provide, which makes him a solid choice as interim CEO.”

Maltun also said that Brauer “provided strong and effective leadership to Union Station this past year, and we wish him well.”

Kahn spent most of his career working for organizations serving low-income people and communities, most recently serving as CEO of L.A. Care, the largest public health plan in the U.S.

“Union Station has a great reputation for doing important work very well. I’m excited to lead Union Station’s strong and committed staff through this transition period,” Kahn said. “Having spent over 30 years serving the health needs of low-income people, its long been clear to me that addressing homelessness has to be a top priority.”

Union Station’s Board of Directors is in the process of forming a special committee to conduct a search for a permanent CEO.

“We are confident that we will find an outstanding leader who can guide Union Station through its growth as a major regional provider of homeless services. We will continue to fulfill our mission to help individuals and families end their homelessness and rebuild their lives,” Maltun said.
