Unwanted Calls on Landlines Can Lead to Scams

Published on Friday, October 25, 2019 | 11:11 am

A home phone ringing off the hook can be hard to ignore, but answering it could lead to trouble.

In the Landline Spam Scam, fraudsters hound people with automated robocalls on their home or office phones, often targeting seniors.

The scammers then get their victims to reveal confidential personal information, which can lead to identity and financial theft.

Tips:

• Install a call-blocking device or use your carrier’s call-blocking services.
• Sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov.
• If you answer a robocall, hang up and don’t press any numbers.
