Urban Plates is a place where you can feel at home. The food is fresh and simple but with enough options to satisfy a variety of palates – they even have a kids’ menu. The outdoor fire pit, communal table and and cozy seats will make you want to linger over your meal.

“That’s why we have a community table here – we want people to meet their neighbors…[Eating together] is a way we connect with each other,” said Chef Robert Buycks.

The market style restaurant offers solid staples like BBQ Turkey Meatloaf (which is one of Chef Robert Buycks’ favorites) and Oven Baked Salmon as well as vegan and gluten-free choices like the Kale Coconut Tofu salad and the Vegetable Curry. The Vegetable Curry is creamy, well-seasoned and about ten times as good as you could make at home – it even comes served at the perfect temperature so you can dig in right away.

“We want you to feel at home here as soon as you walk in the door,” said Buycks. Although the communal table encourages conversation, there’s also WiFi in case you need to get some work done.

Buycks says he peruses Pasadena farmer’s markets and is inspired by the seasons and includes high-quality options like wild-caught albacore and organic produce. Best of all, everything comes served with a beautifully grill-marked slice of foccacia bread.

“It makes me feel great to cook from scratch and offer things like free-range chicken at this price point,” said Buycks.

As you make your way down the cafeteria style bar, you’ll find a diverse assortment of beverages. Choose a summery replenisher like the Ginseng Mint Green Tea or a glass of kombucha on tap. For diners 21-and-over, there is an impressive variety of beer and wine to compliment your meal.

Urban Plates doesn’t skimp on the desserts either. They have an in-house pastry chef and incredible selection of tempting treats like Urban Cowgirl Cookies and Strawberry Vanilla Layer Cake. These options change almost daily so there’s always a good reason to save room for dessert.

“We’re a perfect fit – Pasadena is a community and we’re a family restaurant,” said Buycks.

Urban Plates is located at 269 South Lake Avenue. Visit www.UrbanPlates.com or call (626) 800-4448 for more details.
