The sermon (video shown below) was delivered by Rev. John Dephouse, Senior Associate for Education and Formation, All Saints Church Pasadena on Sunday, March 2, 2014. The Rev. Jon Dephouse comes to All Saints after serving as Priest Associate at St. James, South Pasadena for 4 years where he developed education programming and ministries for adults, youth, and children and where he was chaplain for the Day School. Prior to his ordination to the priesthood, Jon was the director of At Risk Youth Mentoring for Care Corps International in Pasadena. His first Masters degree is in Cross Cultural Studies with a concentration in Urban Mission. He also earned a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA where he received the St. Georges College Jerusalem Prize, given to a student who has demonstrated commitment to interfaith dialogue.

Both a musician and an endurance athlete, Jon has composed liturgical music used in an alternative liturgy at St. James, which he and others designed called “Sacramentum.” He also has completed two marathons and numerous triathlons including an ironman race in 2008. Jon’s most recent endurance race has been successful treatment for a rare Sarcoma cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma.

A native of West Michigan, Jon and his wife, Sarah, met during their student days at Fuller. Sarah too has training and rich experience in cross cultural studies and ministry to youth. An expert in health and fitness, she has a business in South Pasadena called, “Fit-Fax.” She and Jon have two young sons, Caleb and Josiah. Jon is thrilled to be in this position of leading education and formation especially in concentration in CYF (Children, Youth & Families). He looks forward to loving and serving the children, youth and families of All Saints as though they are his own.
