A 7:58 a.m. Thursday morning collision on the westbound I-210 freeway near the Lincoln Ave. offramp left a van jammed under a straight bed truck and its driver trapped inside.

Pasadena Fire Dept. and Urban Search and Rescue personnel worked together to remove the driver of the van in a complex and prolonged extrication.

The CHP and Los Angeles City Fire Department’s Heavy Rescue 3 provided assistance.

Pasadena City Spokesperson Lisa Derderian said the driver of the van was treated and transported to the local trauma center with severe bodily injuries. The driver of the truck was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Traffic was backed up to Fair Oaks and delayed traffic up to 20 minutes during the rescue operation.

Roughly 3 hours later the California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer for L.A. County reported that all lanes were reopened.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
