Webinar Today Focuses on the Day-to-Day Decisions Traffic Engineers Make Implementing "Complete Streets" Projects

On Thursday at 1 p.m. the National Complete Streets Coalition with the City of Pasadena will be hosting a webinar—Innovation in Complete Streets Infrastructure.

The public is invited to participate.

Dongho Chang, City Traffic Engineer for Seattle’s Department of Transportation will share a policy framework for growth in Seattle and examples of how Complete Streets projects are pushing the boundaries on implementation and equity for one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.

Chang said, “Over 1,300 communities have adopted Complete Streets policies. However, the day-to-day decisions that transportation agencies and community leaders make in funding, planning, design, maintenance, and operations are how policies are translated into smart implementation.”

Natasha Riverón, of National Complete Streets Coalition said, “The goal of the webinar is to get an inside look at how Complete Streets projects come to fruition.”

She also said, “The National Complete Streets Coalition is a program of Smart Growth America. We are hosting this webinar as part of our webinar series that highlights best practices in implementation and serving vulnerable users across the country.”

Emiko Atherton is the Director of the National Complete Streets Coalition, a program of Smart Growth America. Atherton said, we want to “share innovative practices in implementing Complete Streets around the country.

“Fred Dock and the City of Pasadena are doing great work in this area and we wanted to share what they are doing with the rest of the country.”

The purpose is, “…to plan for a balanced, multimodal transportation network that meets the needs of all users of streets, roads, and highways for safe and convenient travel in a manner that is suitable to the rural, suburban, or urban context of the general plan,” Dock said.

The National Complete Streets Coalition will be hosting transportation leaders from Pasadena and Seattle for their next webinar—Innovation in Complete Streets Infrastructure. These Complete Streets leaders will share how their innovative projects are pushing the needle on implementation and equity in their cities.

The webinar will take place Thursday, the webinar will conclude with a Q&A.
