Week Starts With Rain Chance on MLK Day, Then Sunny Warmer Weather

Monday, Martin Luther King Day, will be partly sunny and could bring some rain over Pasadena as a series of weak frontal systems move through Southern California during the next seven days.

Although most of the rain should be in areas north of Santa Barbara, the National Weather Service predicts a 20 percent chance of rain for Pasadena, where it will be partly sunny Monday, with highs near 64 degrees and lows at 51.

A calm wind from the southwest prevails throughout the day becoming west southwest to north in the evening. The 20 percent rain chance remains, the NWS says.

“There may be some lingering showers during the evening but it’s pretty doubtful,” a NWS forecast discussion for Monday night says. “Rainfall amounts with this system will not be impressive, perhaps a quarter inch north of Point Conception, but no more than a tenth south of Point Conception.”

With all the clouds and possible rain, maximum temperatures will again fall three to six degrees below normal.

Tuesday will be partly sunny, a 20 percent chance expected, highs near 63 and lows around 51. Another front whips across Southern California Tuesday, but again, most of the energy – meaning rainfall – will be confined to the north. Rain is more likely in the afternoon over Pasadena.

By Wednesday, a decent ridge sets up and persists into Thursday, bringing mostly sunny skies over Pasadena and higher temperatures – highs near 67 and lows around 50 degrees.
