On February 22 at approximately 12:00 p.m., Pasadena Police Jail detention officers discovered an inmate, Margarita Perez, 26, a Pasadena transient attempting suicide by strangulation.

Police personnel immediately rendered aid and summoned Pasadena Fire Department paramedics to the jail. Paramedics continued medical efforts and transported the woman to a local area hospital. Ms. Perez remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Inmate/suspect Perez was originally arrested on February 20, 2015 for grand theft, felony evading and two arrest warrants, following a short vehicle pursuit.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office was notified of the incident, which did not meet the criteria for a response as no use of force was involved.

Pasadena Police Detectives responded and the investigation is on-going.
