Since 1944, the League has bestowed a Woman of the Year award to one woman based on their notable contributions to their fields and their community. Woman’s Civic League member, Marna Cornell was clearly the League’s first choice this year to receive the 2019 Woman of the Year Award on June 3rd at the Pasadena Women’s City Club. Marna has a BA in history from Stanford University and an MA in Education from Azusa-Pacific. She served from 2012 to 2015 as President of the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area as well as Membership Chair and is currently a Board member. “ Marna totally revitalized the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area through small dinner “salons” where she brought people together to discuss current issues…today there are a lot of men who are members as well and over-all active participation has grown by leaps and bounds.” She serves as a Mayor nominated commissioner on the Pasadena Status of Women Commission, is a member of Vital Voices of the Women in Leadership group, is a Neighborhood Watch captain, is a lay counselor at All Saints Church, and is a certified spiritual director. Basically she is all about building relationships.

League member Barbara Jacoby organized a terrific Chico’s Summer Collection Fashion show modeled by League members with Chico’s Paseo Colorado’s Manager Margo Morales on hand and commentated by Roberta Kreissl. League Board member Darlene Besocke, created show stopping fashion show themed centerpieces for each of the tables.

The purpose of the Woman’s Civic League is the advancement of civic ideals through the support of agencies providing services to women and children and the enrichment of the lives of our members through the accomplishment of common goals and development of lasting friendships.
