Ashley Medina ran 36th overall with a sub-20 minute time as the Pasadena City College women's cross country team placed 15th out of 26 scoring squads at the SoCal Preview Meet held September 19 at Van Nuys' Woodley Park.

Medina ran a time of 19:59.9 over the 5-kilometer course. Other Lancers cracking the top 100 were Edna Bailon in 59th (20:34.8) and Kate Manzke in 73rd (20:55.1). Marina Flores scored in 108th (22:13.8) while Rebecca Serrano was 116th (22:20.3). Non-scoring PCC racers were Tessa Chandler in 124th (22:33.6) and Karen Caal in 130th (22:45.1).

Glendale won the team title while South Coast Conference foe East Los Angeles had the individual champion in Laura Aceves (18:11.7).

"We've been without one of best runners from last year in Tansica Sunkamaneevongse, who we expect to see in action the next few meets," said PCC head coach Armand Crespo. "Ashley has established herself as one of the state's better competitors. So we could crack the top 10 in the South by the time we reach the SoCal Championships."

ROUGH ROUTE FOR PCC MEN IN 27TH

It was not a good day for the Pasadena City College men's cross country team as the Lancers settled for 27th out of 29 scoring teams over the 4-mile course at the SoCal Preview Meet.

PCC's top runner Nathan Guzman lost his field chip along the route and did not score. Celso Martinez ended up the fastest Lancers runner in 131st place at 22:42.6. The rest of the team finished in order: Pedro Lopez, 142nd, 22:36.2, Russell Yu, 147th, 23:03.9, Emilio Barragan-Steimer, 166th, 23:31.8, Eric Bravo, 167th, 23:34.8, and Sergio Andrade, 192nd, 25:40.2.

SCC opponent Mt. San Antonio won the team title while College of the Canyons Rodrigo Ornelas was the fastest individual at 20:11.4.

The Lancers teams plan to appear next at the Cal State San Bernardino Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the San Bernardino Sheriff Training Facility in Devore.
