Women’s Cross Country Runs Against Cal University Contingent

The Pasadena City College women’s cross country team ran against a field mostly of California 4-year university teams as it placed seventh out of eight squads at the Cal State San Bernardino Invitational held September 27. The 6-kilometer race was held at the San Bernardino Sheriff Training Facility in Devore.

The Lancers welcomed the return of their top runner from last year as sophomore Tansica Sunkamaneevongse placed second on the team and 47th overall with a time of 25 minutes, 40.8 seconds. Once again, freshman Ashley Medina proved to be PCC’s fastest racer, taking 40th place at 25:01.9.

Eighty runners took part, including meet winner Cal Poly Pomona and the only other community college team Victor Valley (eighth place).

The rest of PCC’s crew finished as follows: Edna Bailon, 51st, 25:49, Kate Manzke, 56th, 26:13, Tessa Chandler, 64th, 27:35.8, Marina Flores, 66th, 27:46.8, Karen Caal, 73rd, 28:38.7, and Rebecca Serrano, 80th, 34:01.

MEN 5TH AT SAN BERNARDINO MEET

The Lancers men’s team placed fifth out of five scoring teams at the San Bernardino Invitational. Nathan Michael Guzman placed 49th overall to lead all PCC harriers with a 28:03 time over the 8-kilometer course.

Also running for the Lancers were Russell Yu, 58th, 28:19.3, Pedro Lopez, 68th, 29:13.2, Celso Sandoval Martinez, 73rd, 29:50.3, Eric Bravo, 74th, 30:24.7, Emilio Barragan-Steimer, 76th, 31:08.2, Sergio Andrade, 77th, 31:38, and Gabe Walden, 78th, 31:44.9.

Eighty-one men participated including unattached runners and one non-scoring college. Cal Poly Pomona won the men’s title as the first 11 finishers came from that university.
