The Pasadena City College women’s water polo team didn’t have a problem creating chances v. Cerritos College on Wednesday, but the Lancers had trouble reaching the net in a 16-4 loss to the Falcons in a South Coast Conference match.
The Lancers (1-12 overall, 1-5 in SCC play) fired 23 shots on the Cerritos cage, scoring just once in their first 12 attempts. Meanwhile, Carla Harvey scored three of her game-high seven goals in the opening few minutes to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.
PCC starting goalie Sharon Perez again impressed with four acrobatic saves on close-range shots in the first half. She played the field in the second half, her regular position as a utility player, scoring a goal and adding an assist along with three steals.
Stephanie Velasco scored two goals, upping her team lead to 30 and now the sophomore has 93 in her career. She is trying to become just the third Lancer to ever reach 100 goals in a PCC career.
On defense, Ariahn Givens made four steals and accomplished two field blocks. Erica Sanchez scored her first goal of the season, a long-range attempt in the first quarter.
The Lancers next play at El Camino College on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in a 3 p.m. SCC game.
