The Women’s City Club of Pasadena celebrated 70 years of providing a club for women involved in business, civic affairs, education and philanthropy with the Gloria Gartz Gala on Saturday evening inside the historic Blinn House.

Impersonating Gloria Gartz, the 2014 Gloria Gartz recipient Ellen Snortland came dressed in shimmering gold to deliver the awards to the two recipients.

Dr. Floraline Stevens received the Gloria Gartz Legacy Award for her long-standing leadership and service to club and The Blinn House Foundation as past president and current board member.

Toni Rodriguez received the Member of the Year Award for her exemplary work as Chair for WCC’s “Let’s Make a Difference” committee that awards college scholarships to local young women.

Founded in June of 1945 by Gloria Gartz, the mission of the Women’s City Club was to provide forward-thinking women a place to empower each other, encourage one another and to contribute meaningfully to their community.

Seventy years later the WCC is still fulfilling Ms. Gartz’ lifelong dream by providing a sanctuary where women can gather and carry on in that spirit of initiative and camaraderie.

In the time before our ease of communication, Gartz was able to bring together hundreds of women to create a place of mutual support in their personal, community, businesses, civic, and charitable efforts.

Guests enjoyed lovely salmon canapés among other appetizers as well as a special bourbon and scotch tasting. The evening concluded with live music and dancing.

The historic Blinn House was built in 1905, and is an exemplary portrayal of noted architect George Washington Maher’s mastery of the highly regarded prairie style design. The Blinn House was designated a Pasadena Cultural Heritage Landmark in 1977.

The historic Blinn House serves as a home base for several community non-profit organizations.

The WCC is looking for a dynamic group of women who want to connect socially and professionally while living their legacy. To learn more about the WCC please visit www.womenscityclub.com.
