Behind seven event victories, the Pasadena City College women’s swim team placed a best-ever second place at the annual Mt. SAC Invitational held February 20-21 in Walnut. Sierra from Northern California finished ahead of PCC out of 14 scoring colleges participating to capture the team title.

Sophomore Connie Peng won three of the Lancers events–the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.77), the 200 butterfly (2:23.63), and the 200 backstroke (2:20). PCC also recorded first place finishes in the 200 individual medley (IM) by sophomore Tiffany Wong (2:19.72), the 400 IM by freshman Liza Echeverria (4:58.11), the 200 medley relay (1:56.40) and the 400 medley relay (4:14.66).

The Lancers showed their strong depth in such events as the 200 butterfly where they swept the top three places with Echeverria (second, 2:26.69) and Wong (third, 2:26.98) following Peng’s victory time.

PCC also took second places in the 200 free relay (1:43.99), the 200 freestyle by freshman Ariahn Givens, a late addition to the team’s roster from the 2014 water polo team (2:05.62), and the 100 backstroke by Peng (1:04.02).

“This is the best start of a season ever for us,” PCC head coach Terry Stoddard said. “We can really compete well in the South Coast Conference duals based on what we did against some very good teams here at Mt. SAC. We have strength in our relays again like the past two seasons, but we have more depth in many events.”
