The New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church will hold a clothing giveaway drive, bake-off, and barbeque in the church parking lot this Saturday and Pastor William Turner said the event will stay open until virtually all the clothes are gone.

The church has been actively involved in Pasadena for 60 years.

Pastor William Turner said: “I’ve been here 51 years and we’ve been interested in helping people ever since I’ve been here.”

Turner said he anticipates a long day, with the event running Saturday from 9 a.m. until everything is gone,” he said. “It’s going to be a great day.”

Turner said there will be clothing, furniture, and good food in the form of Pastor Turner’s barbeque.

“It’s going to be a great day for people who want to come and help themselves to clothes and furniture and food and plus sample my barbeque. So we look forward to seeing you from 9 a.m. until everything is gone.”

What types of items will be on hand?

“I have people starting to bring [clothing] now from little children to senior citizens from name-brand dresses from women who shop in exclusive places,” Pastor Turner said. “They’re bringing name brand dresses for people who come by and browse mens shoes, boys shoes. Hopefully, we’ll get Target to give us new stuff like tennis shoes and children’s wear. We hope to have a wide variety of goods people can use.”

The church has worked in a range of community efforts to help those who sometimes are unable to help themselves.

“I have been here 51 years and we’ve been serving the community ever since my arrival in every area of their lives,” Pastor Turner said. “From counseling them to getting them off drugs and gang violence you name it and we’ve tried to meet the needs of individuals.

As far as working with others in the community, Pastor said coming together is vital.

“It’s very important, no man walks alone,” he said. “We’re better together, we’re stronger when we unite our forces. We attempt to work with every nonprofit organization. Right now we have an ongoing ministry with Union Station. We’re housing people who have been victimized by circumstances and have become homeless.

“We’re helping them to get reinstated mentally physically so they can return to society,” Pastor said. “We have had the housing program open now for the last nine months and we’ve seen about 12 people reinstated into society who are about to get jobs and move into their own homes.

The networking and collaborating with other churches and organizations is part of the goal.

“We work with all ministries who avail themselves,” he said. “We work with the police Department we support the Chief of Police and City Councilmen. We’ve been there and everybody knows us.”
