YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley Names New Board of Directors

The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley is pleased to announce its 2016—2017 Board of Directors. Janie Marquez, Gayle Montgomery, Peggy Gala, Patty Whong, and Diana Burks-Goodman are the newest board members. Newly elected board officers are Angeline Chen, Board President; Berta Montoya, Vice President; Grace Yuen, Treasurer; and Jennie Morales, Secretary.

About the YWCA Pasadena newly elected board members:

Janie Marquez is an AVP Relationship Manager with City National Bank, and is a specialist in Professional Latino Business Firms and Small Businesses. Gayle Montgomery works for SoCal Gas, and recently completed a six-year run as President of the Sempra Employee Giving Network, Los Angeles Advisory Council. She currently serves as the Communications Lead for the Local Diversity and Inclusion Council, promoting diversity and inclusion awareness in the work place. Peggy Gala is a Senior Associate Director, Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She joined CHLA in April 2010. Prior to CHLA, Peggy practiced law at several litigation firms in greater Los Angeles and worked in environmental policy at the Sierra Club. Patty Whong is a Business and Trusts attorney with the Law Offices of Dennis Huang. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as an Articles Editor for the Journal of Constitutional Law. She majored in Women’s Studies at Wesleyan University, graduating with Departmental Honors, where she focused on visual representations of Asian and Asian Americans. Diana Burks-Goodman is the owner of a Fantastic Sam’s salon in Pasadena. She is also a Vice President for the International Women’ club, serving Monrovia, Liberia; and has served as Co-Chair of the Leprosy Control Foundation in Monrovia, Liberia. Ms. Burks-Goodman also served as member of the Hope Committee, a Bahai’ sponsored community volunteer support program, and served on the Pasadena Western Justice Center Committee.

About the YWCA Pasadena newly elected Board Officers:

Angeline Chen, Board President, is an attorney at the Law Offices of Carl Shusterman, where she provides expert immigration counsel and representation for employers, employees, investors, students, and individuals in family based immigration matters, victims of crimes, and victims of domestic violence. She also assists permanent residents in becoming United States Citizens by preparing the application and representation at the interview with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Berta Montoya, Board Vice-President, is the Director of New Business Development, Latino Market for Thrivent Financial, serving the financial needs of the Latino community. Ms. Montoya is also a member of the National Latina Women Business Association. Grace Yuen, Board Treasurer, is currently a Vice President at Siebert Brandford Shank & Co, LLC. She has more than ten years of experience in public finance and has served numerous municipal bond issuers in the structuring and execution of their transactions across the West, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. Since joining Siebert Brandford Shank, Ms. Yuen has worked with a number of municipal governments in California and is a member of Women in Public Finance Los Angeles. Jennie Morales, Board Secretary, currently serves as the Staff Counsel Specialist for the State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF). In her position with SCIF, she handles complex defense litigation. Her focus and her community work and activism has been centered on empowering minorities, especially young women. She is dedicated to encouraging and promoting education and raising the self-esteem of women.

YWCA’s board members work hard to support the mission of the YWCA: Eliminating racism and empowering women. They are dedicated to program development, establishing innovative connections with the community, and creating more meaningful impact with those YWCA serve in the region.
