The JPL Academy is an after-school engineering program with a space exploration twist that offers high school students the opportunity learn from some of the pros at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab. Students will learn about conducting basic research, working with peers and bosses, improving communication and presentation skills, and, yes, they will take a step forward to college and later professional success. All this in 10 weeks! Join the team!
This year is particularly exciting as they’ve teamed up with a school in Spain to create the opportunity for international collaboration between students on opposite sides of the globe. Certain groups of students will work with the Spanish students to collaborate in building their project together. More details to come!
Application must be received by Sunday, September 9, 2018. Application received after the deadline will not be considered. Finalists will be notified on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.
Each applicant should apply as an individual. Once next year’s roster of students has been selected, we’ll send out a second form for students to request particular teammates.
The JPL Academy meets on Fridays after school for two hours, from 3:45-5:45PM, but a lot of the leg work will be carried out independently by the participant and his or her team. Applicants should be prepared to budget at least 2 additional hours per week to work on the project at home after school.
The program runs from September 14 to November 16.
