A Very Happy Chinese New Year to Maranatha Families
Chinese New Year, more commonly known as “Spring Festival,” is celebrated in countries with large populations of Chinese. It is the largest and most significant holiday for Maranatha High School students from Asian countries. In fact, in mainland China, many companies close down, and schools break session, as what schools do, in the United States during Christmas.
This year, 2017 is the “Year of the Rooster”. Based on a time when roosters were important for waking people to perform their chores, the rooster represents punctuality and fidelity. The key focus during this celebration is time with family and the sharing of great food. Traditions for children include “red envelopes” stuffed with money given by parents and relatives.
Maranatha’s International Students share this holiday with its domestic students by handing out red envelopes stuffed with a Minuteman Café “buck”. The international students also share a celebration lunchtime together eating favorite foods, playing games, and putting on a talent show.
Happy Spring Festival, Friends and Families of Maranatha!
