Alverno High School’s Summer Program for Middle School Girls Offers Empowering Experience

Alverno High School is proud to announce the fourth summer of the Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle School Girls at the Alverno campus. The Conservatory is open to 6th-8th grade girls and follows Alverno’s mission of empowering each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be.

Started in 2012, the Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle School Girls was created to offer 6-8th grade girls with the opportunity to build healthy friendships with other girls, develop strong leadership skills, and academically prepare for high school—all while having a great time!

The Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle School Girls begins Tuesday, June 16 and concludes on Thursday, July 16 with both full and half day options available. Classes included in the program are Algebra, Music, Language Arts, Leadership, Culinary Skills, HSPT/ISEE test preparation, and Physical Education.

In addition to academic activities, students in the Conservatory will get to enjoy all of the privileges of being an Alverno student. Alverno’s government is modeled after the government of the United States with legislative, judicial, and executive branches and students enrolled in the Conservatory will become the fifth “state” of the Alverno Union and will hold elections for their state leaders. Just as each “state” at Alverno is required to complete a yearly service project, so will the Conservatory students. Last year’s class raised money for the Pasadena Humane Society through a bake sale and campus carnival.

The Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle School Girls concludes on Thursday, July 16 with a graduation ceremony and a sleepover for students and a guest in the historic Villa del Sol d’Oro on Alverno’s campus.

“My daughter thoroughly enjoyed all of the experiences she had at Alverno’s Summer Conservatory last year,” said Tim, father of a Conservatory graduate and incoming Alverno freshman. “During the program, my daughter was able to develop her leadership skills and discover a confidence in herself that she hadn’t seen before. Personally, I was struck by the caring nature of these young girls and the friendships they created in such a short time.”

“I had a great time during the Conservatory last year,” said Sarah, a Conservatory graduate and current Alverno freshman. “It was great to spend the summer learning and having fun but my favorite part was spending time with girls from different schools who were nice, confident, and smart individuals. I am so excited to help with the program this year and be a freshman at Alverno!”
