Alverno Jaguars Varsity Soccer Defeats Holy Family Gaels 14-0

The Alverno High School Jaguars defeated the Holy Family Gaels 14-0, their largest margin of victory this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Ayanna Melin (1) recorded her fifth shut-out. Eleven different Jaguars players scored with starters and reserves contributing to the offensive attack.

Freshman midfielder Beatriz Rivas (16) scored the Jaguars’ first goal in the 3rd minute of the game. Senior forward Emma Cavender (19) scored in the 7th minute. Junior midfielder Larissa Hernandez (21) scored in the 9th minute. Rivas scored again in the 10th minute off a pass from Hernandez. Junior defender Nicole Lianto (6) scored in the 21st minute off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Subrina Hamdan (4). Hamdan was credited with an assist in the 25th minute when her shot was deflected into the goal by a Gaels defender. Co-captain and senior defender Dina Der Vartanian (8) scored in the 40th minute off a Hernandez corner kick. The Jaguars led 7-0 at half-time.

Co-captain and senior midfielder Isabel Diaz (9) scored in the 42nd minute off a pass from senior forward Maria Luchetta (10). Sophomore defender Nicole Oberhammer scored in the 46th minute. Hamdan was involved in her third scoring play when she landed a goal in the 55th minute off a pass from Lianto. Luchetta scored in the 59th minute. Freshman forward Megan Cavender (7) scored back-to-back goals in the 75th and 76th minutes. Co-captain and senior midfielder Caitlyn Delgadillo (5) finished the rout with a goal in the 80th minute.

The Jaguars’ next game will be on Friday, January 22, 2016 against the Bishop Conaty- Our Lady of Loretto Wildcats at the Glendale Sports Complex.
