Alverno’s Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle Schools Girls “Takes the Pledge”

The Alverno High School Summer Institute and Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle School Girls are in their second week and the school is excited about all of the wonderful things happening on campus!

Last week, members of the Summer Academic Conservatory for Middle Schools Girls watched portions of the The United State of Women Summit at The White House that was organized by First Lady Michelle Obama during their Leadership Class. After discussing some of the issues that women face in the United States including economic empowerment, educational opportunities, leadership and civic engagement, health and wellness, and more the girls decided to ‪#‎TakethePledge‬. By taking the pledge, the girls are doing their part today so that we can change tomorrow!

Additionally, the girls wrote letters to Mrs. Obama sharing what they learned from the Summit and also asking her to consider issues related to teen girls and women including bullying, positive body image, education on how more women can run for office, and paid maternity leave.
