An Historic School Community Positions Their Students for the Future with STEM Education

San Gabriel Mission Elementary School has been preparing students to become agents of change in their communities since 1912. When you enter our campus, you will find yourself surrounded by a family-friendly community with deep historic ties that is enriched by the Dominican and Claretian charisms of sharing the Word and Truth of Jesus Christ and living in service of others.

The faculty and staff of San Gabriel Mission Elementary School is dedicated to educating healthy, well-rounded students and seeing each child as a unique individual with special God-given gifts and abilities. We believe that setting high academic and moral expectations, appropriately challenging our students in both curriculum and character, as well as providing suitable support systems ensures that each student works at their highest potential to achieve future success.

San Gabriel Mission Elementary School maintains a clear vision for the future and recognizes that the needs of 21st century students are complex. Therefore it is essential that our students develop the ability to think critically, be effective communicators and problem-solvers.

To this end, San Gabriel Mission Elementary School has endeavored to bring the latest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to our students. The new STEM Center is a vibrant space where STEM teacher, Mrs. Darcy Lopez, engages students in hands-on and virtual lessons and labs using Smartboard technology and New Generation Science Standards-aligned, hybrid curriculum in addition to fun extras like a 3D printer! Mrs. Lopez believes that “If students aren’t making mistakes and taking chances, they’re not actively learning” and that her role isn’t to give students information but to “facilitate opportunities for their deep learning”. Mrs. Lopez leverages the power of technology to create an engaging and challenging environment that excites students to the realities and the possibilities of the science that is all around them. Extracurricular activities, such as chess, Brick 4 Kids and Girls Who Code extend STEM learning and critical thinking beyond the school day.

We invite you to come and see all that the San Gabriel Mission Elementary School community has to offer at our January Open House dates; Tuesday, January 29th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, January 30th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

If you are looking for a new school family, where your children can grow in faith and excellence, San Gabriel Mission Elementary School is a safe and family-centered community where students are immersed in Catholic faith tradition and prepared to be leaders of the future.
