Blair High School’s Countdown to 2013 Ovations Classic

Tickets are on sale now for this year’s Blair Ovations show, coming this month, April 18, 19 and 20, Thursday through Saturday nights.

This year’s annual spring musical theatre production returns to Ovations’ classic musical revue format, with highlights this year from four beloved musicals: A Chorus Line, Cabaret, Les Miserables and Wicked.

In an exciting development, Ovations will be performed right here at Blair in a transformed amphitheatre, complete with a professional quality dance floor donated and installed by David Sukonick.

As twilight fades and our Blair students prepare to take the stage, enjoy delicious dinners sold by Blair’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Academy. While eating, diners will enjoy pre-show music performed by the Blair Viking Jazz Band.

The curtain rises at 7:00 pm!

Ovations affords students the opportunity to work with theatre professionals to hone the skills of dancing, acting, and singing, culminating in a challenging high caliber presentation. Ovations cast members are a diverse inclusive cross-section of the Blair student body, from 6th graders to seniors, and even children of staff.

This will be Ms. Benita Scheckel’s sixth year directing Ovations. In addition to teaching drama and choir at Blair, Ms. Scheckel oversees the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme which involves all Blair students grades 6-10. Ms. Scheckel also recently co-wrote the musical “Bend in the Road,” which after its west coast premiere in 2012 will open in New York in 2013.

The talented Mr. Kevin Lee returns again this year, making time in his schedule as a professional choreographer to create fantastic dance numbers and patiently teach them to the students. The complicated choreography in this year’s numbers from A Chorus Line are alone worth the ticket price!

Coming in this year as assistant director is Ms. Kelsey O’Keeffe. A Blair Viking, Kelsey O’Keeffe is herself an alum of Ovations, and since graduating from Blair in 2007, she earned a college degree in theatre (including minors in music and dance) and now works full-time in the arts.

Note: Ovations 2013 will be performed under the stars Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with no matinee show. In the rare chance of rain, the shows will be moved to April 25-27.

Tickets are available for purchase at the door, from Ovations cast members, from Ms. Dianne Moore in the Blair Counseling Center, or online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/358555.

Don’t miss being part of this inaugural dinner theatre event at the “Blair Bowl.” Please help spread the word about this opportunity to support Blair and enjoy fantastic entertainment!
