Elias Hosseini, a senior at Don Bosco Technical Institute (Bosco Tech), has earned a spot in the 2016 Tournament of Roses Honor Band, the official band of Pasadena’s Rose Parade. Each year, the Tournament of Roses Honor Band selects its musicians from all over California. Only about 100 places are awarded to high school students.

Hosseini, who has played the trumpet since middle school, serves as drum major of this year’s Bosco Tech marching band. He has participated in the California State University Los Angeles First Chair Honor Band and has attended the California Leadership Academy and System Blue band workshops. Elias also plays in Bosco Tech’s symphonic and jazz bands.

“Elias has earned his spot in the Tournament of Roses Band through his talent, hard work and persistence,” said Daniel Almanza, Bosco Tech’s music program director. “Since his freshman year, he has been one of the hardest working students in the band. The entire Bosco Tech family will be proud to see him on New Year’s Day!”

Celebrating its sixtieth year, Bosco Tech is an all-male Catholic high school that combines a rigorous college-preparatory program with a technology-focused education. The innovative science, engineering, technology and math (STEM) curriculum allows students to exceed university admission requirements while completing extensive integrated coursework in one of several applied science and engineering fields. Each year for the past several years, one hundred percent of the graduating class has earned college acceptances.
