Challenge Success: Building Your Path at La Canada High School

La Canada High School (LCHS) is hosting an amazing event on October 20th. Stanford’s Challenge Success program partners with schools, families, and communities to promote a broad definition of success to support students who are healthy and engaged with their learning. The event will include two keynote speakers as well as 34 presenters from a variety of career fields including professionals from the fields of science, medicine, law, finance, business, education, politics, entertainment, engineering, astronomy, the arts, nonprofits, and aviation, among others, who are all community members.

On Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., La Canada High School will be presenting Challenge Success: Building Your Path at La Canada High School. The event is free, will include breakfast and lunch (Jersey Mikes) and is open to all LCUSD students grades 6-12 and their parents. The event will include two keynote speakers as well as 34 presenters from a variety of career fields including professionals from the fields of science, medicine, law, finance, business, education, politics, entertainment, engineering, astronomy, the arts, nonprofits, and aviation, among others, who are all community members. The event will begin with breakfast from 8:00-9:00 am followed by the first keynote speaker in the LCHS auditorium. Emmy winning actor and LCHS parent Courtney Vance will deliver the first keynote address. There will then be three 45-minute sessions in classrooms with career professionals from the community. The event will conclude with the second keynote in the LCUS auditorium featuring NASA JPL engineer MiMi Aung who will discuss her experience working on the Mars Helicopter engineering project. Lunch will follow where students will have access to meet and speak with presenters and keynote speakers.

The event is a natural extension of the Stanford University Challenge Success program which the school district has been involved with for over two years now. Stanford’s Challenge Success program partners with schools, families, and communities to promote a broad definition of success to support students who are healthy and engaged with their learning.

Last time the event was held over 450 students attended and it was a big success. This time the invitation is being extended to include all students grades 6-12, their parents as well as any LCHS alumni who are interested. Students and parents are encouraged to sign up online starting October 4th.
