Chandler’s Middle School Walk of Respect

What if everyone studied the good of the Holocaust instead of just the evil? That question prompted Mrs. Laird to design a new project for her seventh-grade English students, who read Elie Weisel’s Night in the spring.

Students researched ordinary citizens who took heroic measures to save Jewish lives, using resources from the Righteousness Among the Nations website. Then they created a memorial walk up the Tower stairs for the whole community.

“Students were surprised to see how many people of other religious faiths, such as the Catholic church, took huge risks to save the lives of their Jewish neighbors,” said Laird.

“I liked that this project focused on those who did good during the Holocaust, instead of on those who did bad,” said Brandon Chui.
