On Wednesday, October 11, Chinese scholar Dr. William Zhang and his wife Vera, came to visit Maranatha to speak to Dr. Allen Jang’s international Chinese students.

Dr. Jang had learned that this distinguished speaker was in Southern California and had spoken to a group of foreign-born Chinese high schoolers in Orange County that week. Dr. Jang shared, “After learning about the overwhelming response he received from those students, I wanted to have Dr. Zhang come speak to my 14 international Chinese students and share his testimony of how studying science convinced him that there had to be a Creator, and that’s how he came to know Jesus as his Savior.” Dr. Zhang agreed to come to Maranatha the very next day and address Dr. Jang’s class. “In his presentation to my students, done entirely in Mandarin, Dr. Zhang’s main objective was to show them that they can become scientists with Ph.D.’s in a STEM discipline, yet still be followers of Jesus Christ and believe that life was created by God.”

Dr. Zhang has a B.S. in Bioengineering and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. He was raised as an atheist by atheistic parents during the Cultural Revolution. He converted to Christianity after reading a book about how biological scientific evidence supported Christian worldviews. This was Dr. Zhang’s first visit to the U.S. where he has been on a lecture tour in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana.
