Eliot Middle School Math Field Day – A Success

Eliot Arts Magnet's sixth grade Math Field Day team with their silver medals

Last Saturday, a large group of Eliot Arts Magnet’s highest achievers arrived at the Pasadena High School (PHS) campus to compete against other middle schools in PUSD’s annual Math Field Day. According to Math Field Day participant Miguel Castillo, the contest consisted of small groups that were divided by school and grade level. Miguel stated that the groups were given packets that were made up of math questions for the groups to answer collaboratively and individually. All the correct answers from each group were summed up and the scores were averaged to get a total score for each group, said Miguel.

The great news is that Eliot Arts Magnet students left the challenging event with many medals! The sixth grade team, which consisted of Jason Cabrales-Carcano, Diego de la Cruz, Jose Mendez Chigo, Adolfo Murillo Carrada, and Jeffrey Rodriguez, won two silver medals! Our seventh grade Team A, which consisted of Ginelle Hall, Miranda Hernandez, Se Bin Jung, Lela Theus, and Miguel Navarro won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, while the seventh grade Team B, consisting of Pedro Gomez, Brandon Lopez, Christian Montellano, Jaime Rodriguez, and Miguel Castillo won one silver and one gold! Finally, the eighth grade team, made up of Jewel Theus, Peter Bae, Jenny Jung, and Grace Jung won three silver medals!
